Gems and adornment have been deeply intertwined for thousands of years - here is your opportunity to learn three distinct stone settings: cabochon, tube, and flush! These settings will be incorporated in a sterling silver pendant with design variation ideas for you to choose to make it uniquely yours.
You will learn the foundations of stone setting with in-class demonstrations for the three styles you will be executing with additional step-by-step instructions provided. In addition, the ABC's of designing jewellery that incorporates gemstones, the various tools used and which ones are essential. I will present an overview of gem material, what to look for when purchasing a gem, and how to avoid buying stones that are inappropriate for setting.
You will learn within a dynamic working jewellery studio and have the opportunity to continue to learn and grow as a metalsmith: amateur or professional.
All workshops are taught in Donna’s spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped studio in downtown Hamilton. You will learn by jumping in and beginning a project in the first session!
Workshop fee includes materials, step-by-step instructions for your project, on-line access to printable/downloadable information and an image slideshow. Please bring a dust mask, pencil, notebook, and a small container to store your projects.
This workshop is suitable for you if you have prior metalsmithing experience or have taken Exploring the Monad: Designing, Forming and Shaping Metal, or Play with Fire and Hammer like a Boss: Introduction to Jewellery Making and Metalsmithing.
Workshops are limited to six participants.

All payments for workshops are non-refundable. If public health restrictions or other circumstances beyond Donna Hiebert Artist’s control come into effect that prevent classes from taking place we will reschedule to a later date.
