The Sumerians in Mesopotamia (circa 3500 BCE) were among the first to use simple casting methods to create gold objects. They used open molds carved from stone or clay to cast gold.

Since that time the techniques have become more sophisticated and the desire to work with metal in this way has endured.

In this workshop you will carve a wax model to cast in silver and then finish your casting to be ready to wear or display. Wax carving small models can be as simple or complicated as you wish. You will come away with a finished piece and the basic knowledge required to continue to create lost wax castings.

This workshop is suitable for someone new to the craft or a more experienced student.

You will learn within a dynamic working jewelry studio and have the opportunity to continue to learn and grow as a metalsmith: amateur or professional.

All workshops are taught in Donna’s spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped studio in downtown Hamilton. You will learn by jumping in and beginning a project in the first session!

Workshop fee includes materials*, step-by-step instructions for your project, on-line access to printable/downloadable information and an image slideshow. Please bring a dust mask, pencil, notebook, and a small container to store your projects.

Workshops are limited to six participants.
